Privacy Policy

      Short version: Survival Guide is an offline-first app. We do not collect, store, or share your personal information. Everything you create in the app stays on your device.
    

1. Who We Are

Survival Guide ("the App") is developed and maintained by KheniTech. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at contact@khenitech.com.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

Your name, email address, or any account information (no sign-up required)
Your precise or approximate location
Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
Photos, camera, or microphone data
Contacts or calendar information
Browsing history or usage patterns sent to our servers

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data exclusively on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to export and share it manually.

Progress & Bookmarks — which guides you have read or bookmarked
Personal Notes — text notes you write on individual guides
User-Created Content — custom categories and guides you create
Downloaded Map Packs — regional PMTiles files saved to device storage for offline use

All of the above is stored in your device's local app storage (localStorage / Capacitor Filesystem). Uninstalling the App removes this data entirely.

4. Network Requests

The App makes the following outbound network requests, none of which include personal data:

Map downloads Downloading a regional map pack sends a standard HTTP GET request to Firebase Storage (firebasestorage.googleapis.com). No user identity or personal data is included in this request.
Online map streaming When using the online map, map tiles are streamed via HTTP Range requests from data.source.coop (Protomaps / OpenStreetMap public CDN). No personal data is transmitted.
Map font glyphs Text labels on the map fetch font files from protomaps.github.io. No personal data is transmitted.

5. Firebase Services

The App integrates the Firebase SDK (by Google). The following Firebase services are configured:

Firebase Storage Active — Used to host and serve regional map files (PMTiles). Only anonymous download requests are made. No user data is uploaded.
Firebase Analytics Inactive — The SDK is installed but analytics collection is currently disabled. No analytics events are logged and no usage data is sent to Google.
Firebase Crashlytics Passive — The SDK is installed to capture unexpected crashes. If the App crashes, Crashlytics may collect the following anonymously: device model, OS version, app version, and a stack trace. No personally identifiable information is included in crash reports. You can opt out by uninstalling the App.

6. Internet Permission

The App requests the INTERNET permission on Android solely to:

Download map pack files from Firebase Storage (user-initiated)
Stream online map tiles (user-initiated)
Send anonymous crash reports via Crashlytics (only on crash)

The App does not use the internet permission for advertising, tracking, or data harvesting.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your data with any third parties. The only external data flows are the anonymous network requests described in Sections 4 and 5 above.

If you use the built-in Share feature to export a guide or category, that data is sent via your device's native share sheet to whatever destination you choose. We have no visibility into or control over that transfer.

8. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Because no personal data is collected from any user, the App is compliant with COPPA and equivalent regulations by design. If you believe a child has inadvertently provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can investigate.

9. Data Security

Since all user data resides on your device, the security of that data depends on your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We recommend keeping your device and operating system up to date. Firebase Storage communications are encrypted in transit using TLS.

10. Your Rights

Because we do not hold any personal data about you on our servers, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or delete on your behalf. All data stored locally can be erased at any time through the Settings → Clear All Data option in the App, or by uninstalling it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
